Assumption of Risk and Liability - COVID

Attendee assumes all risks and accepts sole responsibility for any injury (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability or expense, of any kind, that they may experience or incur in connection with attending the MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders course.

The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society’s Pan American Section (MDS-PAS) has taken preventative measures to reduce the spread of communicable disease including, but not limited to COVID-19 (“Communicable Disease”) at the MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders. However, MDS cannot guarantee that attendees will not be exposed to or contract a Communicable Disease at the MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders. Further, due to the nature of the facilities, services and programs offered at the MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders, participants understand that attending the MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders could increase their risk of contracting a Communicable Disease.

Attendee agrees to abide by all applicable COVID-19-related requirements, advisories, policies, procedures, and protocols of the hotel and MDS-PAS as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the city of San Diego, the State of California, and any other governmental authority for the duration of their stay.

Attendee understands the risk that they may be exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease by attending the MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders and that such exposure or infection may result in quarantine requirements, serious illness, permanent disability and/or death. Attendee further understands that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease at the MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders may result from the actions, omissions or negligence of themselves and others, including, but not limited to, MDS-PAS, its officers, employees, contractors, agents, representatives, sponsors, other participants, and any owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders (“Releasees”). ATTENDEE KNOWINGLY AND FREELY ASSUMES ALL SUCH RISKS, BOTH KNOWN AND UNKNOWN, EVEN IF ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEES, and assumes full responsibility for their participation in the MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders.

Course Description

The MDS-PAS Neuroscience of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders course will take place immediately preceding the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) Annual Meeting. The goal of this course is to introduce this audience to the principles, basic knowledge, and unanswered questions that are important to the field of Movement Disorders. The faculty consists of experts in pathology, etiology, neurodegenerative and neuroprotective mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease and other Movement Disorders. All are outstanding translational scientists in their own right, and many are expected to be attending and speaking at the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) meeting, which follows this course.

Throughout the course sessions, basic scientists will have the opportunity to interact with neurologists and neuroscientists to discuss movement disorders and gain a deeper understanding of symptoms and underlying mechanisms. The overall aim is to increase the number of basic and translational scientists working on questions that are important to the field and future of Movement Disorders.
